Race to the Son

Modern living can sometimes seem like a long succession of races in which we are always trying to beat our neighbour to some goal or other โ€“ whether it be a place for our child in the local school, a promotion at work, or a seat on the train.  And up until now the races have even continued on holiday with the early morning dash to bag the best poolside lounger.  So good news this week that Thomas Cook have announced that for certain hotels this summer customers will be able to pre-book their lounger before they set off.  Finally, for those willing to spend an extra ยฃ22 one of lifeโ€™s most stressful races can be taken off the list.

But of course, anxiety about reaching a goal extends beyond the temporal challenge of train seats and sun loungers to something rather more important โ€“ that nagging feeling that there must be something more to life and we only have a few short years to discover what it is.  The clock is ticking and want to make sure we donโ€™t get left behind.

So wonderful comfort then in the words of Jesus who said, โ€˜Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.โ€™
