Levelling up

The Bible says that ‘God has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble’.

Something rather extraordinary seems to have happened. Not so long ago our ‘news’ was filled with the lives and lifestyles of celebrities. Generally speaking, these were actors, footballers and reality TV stars, living lives most of us could only dream of. Their prominence in society constantly reinforced the subliminal message that their lives were in some way more valuable than ours.

But the current crisis seems to be causing a rebalance as we realise who the true celebrities are. The doctors, nurses, porters and cleaners who now risk their lives by turning up for work. The delivery drivers working around the clock to provide us with food. The supermarket staff racing to fill shelves and sometimes receiving abuse from disappointed customers.

From beginning to end the Bible proclaims that we are all made in the image of God. We are all uniquely valued and treasured by Him and have equal worth in His eyes. The Good News that the Christian faith proclaims is this: no matter who you are God thought you were so important He sent his son Jesus to die for you.
