If there’s one thing I dread at Christmas its receiving Christmas newsletters from friends that are full of the amazing achievements of their children – how little Jonny has been made captain of the school football team, passed his grade 8 piano exam, and won a scholarship to Oxford – and how much he’s looking forward to going to primary school next year!!
I usually read such letters with a growing sense of inadequacy as I can hear my own children in the background, squabbling over who’s turn it is to open the advent calendar that day.
At Christmas we remember that God sent his perfect Son into the world, but He did so in such a way that being near him did not cause people to feel inadequate, but rather to feel God’s love and God’s acceptance.
