Born again

On 26th January 1982, at the age of 17, I decided to follow Jesus. Although I’d attended Church all my life, I found it all pretty boring and irrelevant. I took it for granted that God probably existed but had no idea why I should involve him in my life.  Three things changed that led to my decision that day.

Firstly, I looked at the historical evidence for the resurrection of Jesus and became convinced that it was true. At the same time, I explored the Christian world view as a way of understanding the way the world is and found it to be compelling.

Secondly, I realised that Jesus had died on the cross in my place for my mistakes, and that he had done so because he loved me. I didn’t think that I could ignore someone who had made such a sacrifice on my behalf.

Thirdly, I spent that weekend in 1982 talking with my sister who already knew Jesus and who gave me a first-hand account of the difference he had made.

So, if you’re a sceptic like I was make time to look at the facts before you make up your mind; and if you’re a follower of Jesus make sure you explain why to your family and friends.
